The drive of around 24 miles to Manhattan takes roughly 40 minutes, traffic permitting. New Jersey Transit trains run from Westfield to New York’s Penn Station, with a transfer in Newark during commuter hours. The New Jersey Transit bus 113X goes from Westfield to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in around an hour.
Westfield is a top rated public school district - #15 in the state of NJ & #2 in Union County, according to Niche. Westfield has 6,206 students in grades PK-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 13:1. The Westfield school district has ten schools, including the Lincoln Early Childhood Learning Center, for centralized pre-K and K. There are six neighborhood elementary schools (Grades 1-5): Franklin, Jefferson, McKinley, Tamaques, Washington, & Wilson, and two Intermediate schools (Grades 6-8): Edison and Roosevelt. The district takes pride in it challenging academic curriculum that is developmentally responsive to the social, emotional and behavioral needs of all age levels.
Westfield High School has approximately 1,850 students and with a focus on the “whole student” offers a comprehensive program of studies — more than 170 courses and 16 Advanced Placement courses. Students study one or more of five world languages: Spanish, Italian, Mandarin, French, and Latin. And to round it out, more than 80 co-curricular activities are offered, including 29 sports programs, with more than 80% of students participating in co-curricular activities.

Westfield’s Urban feel comes across in the many cultural offerings highlighted throughout the year. The town has a community theater (The Westfield Community Players), a movie house, a fully professional regional symphony orchestra (NJ Festival Orchestra), and many other musical and arts events, like a summer jazz series where live bands play in five downtown locations on Tuesday nights.
There is no shortage of recreational facilities and open green space in Westfield. Within its peaceful landscape, you will find lush parks, golf courses, and an endless array of recreational facilities for children as well as adults. Westfield sits just across Rte. 22 with easy access to the Watchung Reservation.
Many residents belong to the Westfield Memorial Pool and Aquatic Complex. The Pool Complex offers a 50 meter pool, 40' x 60' diving pool, training pool, two water slides and kiddie pool, concession snack bar and picnic area, swim team and lessons and community nights. A proposed outdoor ice skating rink will be opening in 2018 for the first time in Gumbert Park with access for all residents.
Founded in 1873 as the "Every Saturday Book Club", the Westfield Memorial Library now holds around 250,000 books and offers numerous programs for adults and children in its large modern, Williamsburg style building.
