Located in Essex County, Millburn Township was established over 150 years ago and is known for its easy access to NYC, top-rated school district, world class shopping & dining and rich community spirit. Millburn and Short Hills share the governance of Millburn Township and have a population of just over 20,000. Short Hills is known as the first planned commuter suburb in America. Location | Commute

Millburn-Short Hills is approximately 20 miles west of midtown Manhattan and the commute is a short 35 minute train ride via NJT’s Midtown Direct to NYC Penn Station or transfer in Hoboken for an easy commute to the Financial District by way of Ferry and PATH Trains. Both the Millburn and Short Hills train stations are close to many neighborhoods. Annual parking permits are available as is daily metered parking. Millburn-Short Hills is approximately 10 miles west of Newark International Airport via Routes 78 and 24.

Recognized nationally for it academic excellence, the Millburn Township School District is a top draw for families. In 2018, the Millburn school district was ranked #1 by Niche. Top notch educators are the secret sauce to the districts success. The district has approximately 4,870 students from PreK-12.

Millburn’s High school has approximately 1,500 students and is consistently ranked as one of the top schools in the country. 99% of Millburn High School’s graduates attend college thanks to the towns deep value and support of education and personal growth, trained and caring academic professionals, a high level of academic rigor, 13:1 student to teacher ratio and 30+ Advanced Placement (AP) courses.

Millburn’s five elementary schools - Deerfield, Glenwood, Hartshorn, South Mountain and Wyoming, all feed into the newly formed Fifth Grade Washington School and then it’s on to the Millburn Middle School (grades 6-8). These schools provide nurturing and academically challenging environments with curricula comprised of the core studies plus world languages, the arts, computer lab, music, library and physical education.

Millburn School Transportation

Free busing is available to students who live further than 2 miles for grades K – 8; and further than 2.5 miles for high school, following state regulation. Subscription busing is available to those who do not meet these guidelines.

Millburn is home to the renowned Paper Mill Playhouse, Cora Hartshorn Arboretum & Bird Sanctuary, Greenwood Gardens and has convenient access to the South Mountain Reservation. Annual community events and celebrations bring friends and neighbors together in celebration.

Dining & Shopping

Millburn Township is unique in that it offers upscale shopping along with the quaint small town shopping of a traditional downtown. Downtown Millburn offers a variety of unique specialty shops, restaurants, boutiques, service-based businesses, and professional offices. The Mall at Short Hills, located on the western side of the Township, is a beautiful regional shopping center housing many upscale stores.
